Default Wrapping? - What is it.

hi all,

question of a noob..,

what are wrappers? what do they do?

I always came across this terms whenever we are discussing formats. and i'm really confused. example is:
self contained MOV (quicktime) wrapping DVCPRO50 NTSC 4:3 720x480

or

a file wrapped in MXF..

err.. again what does this mean?

please enlighten me.

thanks.

The wrapper is what's used to deliver the video. AVI, for example, is the predominent wrapper for delivering video under windows encoded in a multitude of formats.
