Default Installing MovieShaker for MicroMV

I have a Sony DCR-IP7E microMV Camcorder which comes with MovieShaker Ver. 3.1 software. I am planning to install this software into a new PC.
The MovieShaker comes with Quicktime 5 and Direct X 8.0a (whatever they are!) Would it be better to download and install a later version of Quicktime and Direct x or would this upset things?
The computer uses Windows XP Professional with service pack 2.
I have tried Sony support line but they were unable to help and denied any knowledge of Movieshaker, directing me to a company called Pixella, but the number they gave me is unobtainable.
Finally, can anyone tell me whether I can use Movieshaker to store my videos on DVD?
