| | Editing a DVD disc
Recently I produced a tutorial DVD with my friend who was an editor by profession.
Unfortunately my friend suddenly died a short time ago and seems to has deleted the build files from his PC, he was using adobe premier to edit the movie.
Anyway, I need to edit the credits on the movie and take out two web addresses, is this possible without the build files, all I have is the DVD discs in NTSC and PAL format.

Well you'd need a program to capture the DVD onto your computer, and im sure you could find a way to import the whole thing into Premiere and somehow put a black bar over the credits or something. Marc, what is a good DVD capturing program? I forget what it was called, you told me once.

Your choice of DVD rippers here: http://www.riphelp.com/downloads/dvd.html.
However, your first step might be to try editing with the VOB files - I think premiere should be able to read them if they're not encrypted and copied to your harddrive.

Thanks for the feedback, so what your saying is it can be done?
Any particular program you can recommend for ripping?

| | Marc,
I tried dvdshrink on a commerial movie DVD and it works great. It created several files including those with the extension .VOB which I can play on the PC using my Radeon file display feature with no problems. It apparently interprets the file as an AVI file and plays it accordingly.
However, when I tried to burn the .vob file(s) to a DVD, none of the 2 DVD burner programs I use (SONIC MYDVD and ULEAD WORKSHOP-2) recognized the VOB extension. Thus, the software would not initialize the burn setup.
Am I doing something wrong?
I've searched google and read a number of docs about burning the .vob
file to DVD. It appears NERO and InstantCD/DVD can do the job.
I'm looking for the least expensive software that lets me burn the .vob files to a DVD.
What would you suggest?

The idea of DVDshrink is to take the VOB files (these are MPEG2 streams) from a DVD, decrypt them, and then squeeze them to find onto a single layered DVD. This is all done automatically in DVDshrink with the press of a few buttons.
In your original post, you say that you need to take some text from the original credits. To do this, you'll have to re-build the DVD from scratch. Rip the vob files to your HDD, then edit the VOB file(s) you need to edit. Then use a DVD authoring application to build the DVD.

Marc,
To conclude my post in this thread......
I successfully ripped a DVD with DV Shrink, and burned it with DVD-Decrypter. These programs work well together. The best part is they're both freebees! The process was relatively simple once I worked through the tutorials.
Although my post(s) had nothing to do with the original problem RAMSEY
first posted, it did point the way to 'ripping' and 'burning' DVD's.
Perhaps this post might have been more useful in the Software forum.
In any event, I discovered the errors I was making after re-reading the docs and program tutorials. The forum has, once again, proven to be a valuable learning tool.
Thanks
