weird sound problem

I've been shooting footage with an old Sony Digital Handycam Hi-8. Just recently there has been a major problem with 10 videos I shoot. Im trying to see if there is any way that I can salvage these so that they are even fairly audible. The sound is all distorted, like there is a robot talking.

I've been filming medical marijuana patients in the United States for the last year, & these are testimonies from sick & dying patients.

Yeah, not immediately though. I don't have a editing program, & Im download one now.

I shortened this one to 10 seconds. I've opened the sound in Cool Edit Pro, it doesn't seem I can reduce the noise.

i didnt listen to it, but just a thought, maybe because they are on medical marijuana, sick and dying, they sound like a robot. It might be the people, not the camera.
