I sometumes use a program called FRAPS, it won't record the entire screen, like showing your dexktop, but it is extremely useful for games play footage, clips from movies (see my SPR remix -- done entirely w/ fraps) and it also can record from an embedded windows media file, like from a website. All of msn.com's music videos are in this format, so you can record a few seconds here and there, whatever you want to get...
