Default Hosting at Digital-Director

A few users have asked about free hosting for their videos. Well, I've had the digital-director.com domain parked for a while now, and it's the ideal chance to put this to use. I doubt there will be much interest, but users would be have the site user.digital-director.com for those that want a site, or digital-director.com/moviename.wmv for those that just want to provide a file.

I'm thinking that this will be available to members with at least 100 posts, which is currently only 3 members You know who you are! But I'm a flexible guy, so if the demand is there, I'll revise this.

Reply to this thread if you're interested.

The video's are about 4 mins each, how best to encode?

Probably best to encode as WMV or DivX/Xvid. Should have the new space up and running in the next few days I'll email you as soon as its complete.

That makes an interesting point Marc, You might want ot think about how you can police that to be 100 'real' posts.

The 100 post thing should be read as "valued member of the forums"

After careful consideration (which means I've been bored at work) members with "Experienced User" under their name will be given the option of hosting videos on my server.

One word of warning though: the bandwidth allocation will be shared amongst all of you, so play nicely or one person will eat it all up. Theoretically, I can't give you unlimited bandwidth or I wouldn't be able to afford to eat. In practice, I'm going to allocate enough bandwidth for 2,000 downloads/month of a 5MB video from the digital-director.com domain. Take a look at the user videos section to see how many hits each post has had. You could then divide that by two (v roughly) to see how many downloads that is.

Marc

how about setting up a thread on here for each vid, and having votes set up, so that the more popular (better?) vids get recognised, and since they're gonna be the more bandwidth heavy ones, maybe they could be shoved off to another place? give room for new blood.

maybe the popular onest could be torrented. there's a thought.
