Well, I've finally done it... I've moved the forum software to phpbb after becoming ever more frustrated with the old board. Unfortunately, I haven't yet found a way of converting the old board, so any old user will have to re-register (sorry!) and old posts have been archived.
But, the old site remains a wealth of information, so visit www.marcpeters.co.uk/videoeditingforum/ to check out the old threads.
Hopefully I'll be able to convert it in the future.

if it's any consolation, the forum looks better, functions better, and actually loads faster, even though it's running a far more complex board.
better to do it now than in a year's time. |

Problem is, it took ages for the old site to start generating posts - finger crossed that this one will be bigger and better... (it can't be hard!)

well, the people from the old one will migrate, and more people were arriving all the time, so it should be ok.

I hope that this new site takes off but I have reservations about coming to the site and finding all change with no warning. Some users may not re-register . I hope its not a case of if it aint broke fix it. :

Unfortunately the old site was getting extremely slow and something had to be done sooner or later. Hopefully the the new software will allow the forums to grow - something which wouldn't have been possible with the old board.

Excellent. I'm working hard on archiving all the old posts - one of the problems with the old board was the fact that Google refused to crawl all the pages. I'm hoping to get all the old posts indexed in Google... (well, I can always hope). Everything's gotta be done manually, so I probably won't sleep tonight!!!

This is an excellent site Marc, I visited the old site on many occasions, and picked up tips hints and help. So far I have not posted a question, as I am more into digital stills than video, but...... one day I'll have time to do both!!
Keep up the excellent work |

Well, all the old forum threads are now safely archived as good ol' html files - so if anyone want to savour their old postings, head over to the main site. There's still a LOT of tidying up to do, but I've made a good start - and I've a few ideas for a couple of new articles at the main site.
I've been playing around with a SONY MICROMV camcorder the last few days - and believe me, if ever there's a way to waste over a grand on a useless piece of gadgetry, this is it. Its an IP7E, its small, and it's completely useless. But more on that in my review!
I've also treated myself to an XM1 from Cannon, so I'll soon see if its worth spending the extra money on a "pro-sumer" camera.
