This is in addition to my thread about the problem I have with my Sony Z1e.

Phoned around 30 numbers this morning to try and find somebody to fix the loose firewire hvd/dv port in my camera.

Most wont touch it and the one that will want between 160-200 quid to do what seems to me a lot for a simple job.

In peoples experience were is the best place to send your camera to get it fixed or is DIY an option.

The reason I ask is I seem to be spending more out on my camera at the moment than its bringing in.

I am very new to this fce editing malarkey and am trying not to feel defeated but i just can't move forward can someone please help!!! Here's what i've done so far:

I imported video file and seperate audio file into fce, then i dragged the video file to overwrite to set it in the timeline and i did the same for the audio file. I then revealed the audio waveforms and lined up the spike of the clap in the video file with the spike of the clap in the audio file. I then put on the clip overlay and brought the sound right down on the audio belonging to the video file. I then rendered it as i wsn't able to view it. Now what i'm left with is a canvas displaying perfect video and synced audio and a viewer which has the clip with no sound????Where have i one wrong...please please please someone help its driving me insane

I have just (after about 6 months cracked it..)

I have a dual core laptop 3 gig of ram (ATI Graphics), its new and recent and i was horified that to convert HD Raw .Mts from my Sony HD Camera it was taking 10x real time to convert to anything that would allow Converting to DVD. Or it would take similar x10 when editing and rendering out the edited footage to wmv/avi etc.

I found that i could straight away take that down to x4 but dragging the .mts into convertxtodvd and converting and burning. 2 hours of HD .Mts will convert and burn to DVD in appx 8 hours. So thats better than 20 hours using Vegas/Premiere etc etc.

I read that a Quad Core with NVidia could do it in real time so had one built for under £400

Quad Core i5 2.8Ghz , Nvidia GT210 (Cheap NVidia Card) 500GB Sata hard drive...

I ran the SAME 2 hour regular footages that i have in .Mts raw AVCHD 24mbps and ran through a few bits of software on the new rig...

Straight to DVD including conversion in convertxtodvd in 50 minutes for Full AVCHD!!!

convert in Vegas 3 Hours
convert in Cyberlink PowerDirector REAL TIME 20-30 fps.

Wow, as you can tell im happy.

So anyone who is using a Dual Core and suffering with X10 converting and waiting upto a DAY to convert then try ConvertxtoDVD

Anyone with a few pounds you can get a quad core i5 with NVidia Graphics(Note this uses Cuda and is far better and quicker than ATI when converting and editing)

No more waiting a Day converting spoerts events for me if i shoot when i need the action and stop when its finished i can burn the footage straight to DVD in 2 times faster than real time, or then edit the vob produced in convertxtodvd.

Anyone that has any other tweaks that like me found improving hardware is better then feel free to let me know what you did to get faster than i have now.

Anyone on Dual Core lappys then try convertxtodvd to get a VOB or DVD in twice as fast as you will get converted footage if you were using an NLE to convert your raw HD (AVCHD/.MTS).

Hope this helps someone to half their converting time even if they cant upgrade their hardware.

BADABOOM doesnt go any faster than PowerDirector for me for AVCHD but have had it upto 40fps converting mp4 to other file sizes. Maybe i am doing something wrong there ive seen it go 500fps on youtube. 20 x FASTER than real time

I have been working with video, although not the way that most on here are, for over five years now and I have seen the meteoric rise in its popularity online. The explosion of broadband, and the ever-increasing popularity of sites such as YouTube have opened the masses eyes to video.

That said, I there are still huge brands in the UK that are not using the power of video properly in my opinion. There would seem to be huge opportunities for video professionals to make compelling. commercial videos.

Ever since I bought a pro camera and started experimenting this year I’ve become hooked. It makes me wonder if I could ever make a living shooting video? I can’t think of many other things that would be more enjoyable, assuming my career as a porn star is in fact now dead ;o)

In my career, I am about to leave one huge UK media owner to work for a video network, and I can’t wait to be in the centre of brands, publishers and content owners/ producers. It is a fantastic opportunity as Head of Content to make some really cool deals. But I am never happier than when I have some time with just me and my camera/ Mac to edit said video.

My question, I guess, for those people out there who are lucky (gifted) enough to make a living out of video is do you think that there are too many videographers for the market today? If not, do you think we are in danger of seeing that soon?

To be honest, I am a salesman of 20 odd years and I have already blagged a job shooting video, albeit on a small scale. I think that anyone with a half decent camcorder could blag some jobs, because the vast majority of people that ‘sort of would like a video’ won’t question the output.

This makes me worry that the market is already flooded with people offering video services, and that maybe this passion will never be more than that.

Rant over. :o)

I’d be interested to know where you guys see the market though.

Hi all,

I've never done video editing or processing. Searching various video forums and Google didn't turn up anything either (wrong search terms?). I've also installed a few freeware video processing tools with no success.

I'd like to export color information from a single, user-defined pixel in a video. The result should be some sort of csv or txt file with two columns: 1) a column with entries corresponding to time (or frame index) and 2) a column (or three columns) with color information.

To put it another way. I'd like to have the video analogue of the color picker in photo editing software (the eyedropper in Phtotshop/Gimp) that gives a plot of color vs. time.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I've recently branched out into Jib hire for Asian weddings - and I'm truly amazed at the scale of some of these events. Pretty much evey one I've done has had between five and eight hundred guests and they are on an epic scale, and generally with no expense spared.

Compared to traditional English weddings they are very hard work too... hours and sometimes days of filming, with one firm I work for often giving a seven hour extravaganza on DVD at the end....

Does anyone else here have experience of them? It does seem a bit of a 'closed shop' from the point of view that they seem mostly to book Asian videographers, but honestly - I'm earning very well out of them and for you guys who moan that the wedding video market is drying up - you want to take a look at branching out...

Ive got some footage shot from my Canon T2i (1080p @ 30fps) that ive edited the levels in to adjust the color. When I go to export it in Apple Pro Res 422 it works fine, the only problem is the file is MASSIVE. Ive got a 9 second clip that renders out to be 256.9mb. Considering the original footage is about 330mb per minute this is insanely large... My Mac has a hard time even playing the file without being choppy in the viewer or in quicktime, much less in FCP. At 28.5mb per second thats not really to surprising... Any suggestions?
I am looking for freeware progs and will be editing in Premier. I have gone in many directions and am fustrated now. Here are a few ways I have tried and my failures but I am willing to forget about them and go in another direction.

Is there any one who has footage of a tracking shot moving slowly through a biblical looking town or village street ?

I have been asked to get together some footage to use on a 10 foot screen as a back ground scene for a nativity play being put on in my local village.

I need about 30 seconds of a side facing tracking shot of the buildings with a POV of around 10 to 15 feet, as Mary & Joseph walk through the city (Davids City) looking for an inn.

The only thing I can offer in exchange is that you will know your footage will be shown on a 10 foot screen in a small village in North Yorkshire in the UK also I and the local church would be very grateful if you could help.
