Default 8 cm (3inch) DVD capture-HOW?? Help needed!

Okay - I admit. I was fooled into bying a mini DVD camcorder. Extremely nice and handy. Fills my needs as a camera,. What I want to do is to import the footage and delete the junk, maybe do some scene changeovers, and eventually burn it to DVD:s My interestst are dogs and motorbikes and NOT editing...I just want to do the minimum.
The supplied bundled "SonicMyDVD for Canon" won't launch (or even work at all) ánd since Canon reuse to take responsibility and Sonic can't even be reached...so - how do I get the images in in order to use Pinnacle or Adobe or whatever I choose to use as the editing SW..? Anyone have a suggestionn?
And yes- I am new to video editing, but I have been working for a few years with digital photo editing.

The DVD will contain VOB files under a directory called VIDEO_TS. Copy these to your harddrive and import these into your editing application. If they do not work, convert them to DV AVI following section 10 of the FAQ - http://www.videoforums.co.uk/reviews/faq
