file type problem

Hi
I'm working on a project to make DVD discs from my VCR tapes. i'm using analog TV card in order to capture the files.
now, i don't know in which file to save the video files. MPEG2 with 720X500... are not supported by adobe premiere and other pro programs but also i don't want to lose quality by encoding to AVI.
any suggestions?
