Default Mini DV tape to PC

Hi!

I am VERY new to the video thing and I am SO confused on what to do next!

1. I have a JVC mini DV camcorder
2. I also have a new computer with: Athlon AMD processor 64 3200+/2.00GHz, 512 memory, DVD rw.....
3. I installed the software that comes with the camcorder. But apparently it isn't designed to do what I thought it was, I am still unable to take the video I have recorded onto the tape and put it onto my PC so that I can make a dvd.

What do I need to do this? Thanks for ANY help you can give me!!!

Connect your camera via firewire to your PC.

Most definiatelty agreed. And uninstall the s/w that came with the camera. It's sole puspose will be to allow you to capture (video and stills maybe) through USB. Forget USB for video capture.

Just connect the camera to the firewire port on your PC, put the camera into VCR (playback) mode and start the capture utility from you favourite NLE.

Erica: what that nice Mr. Mills means ("NLE") is Non Linear Editing program - i.e. Windows Movie Maker, Adobe Premiere, Ulead Video Studio etc. Sometimes, we on the board speak in tongues...
