real simple vob editing

Hey, new here . . .
I have four DVD's of a conference and I need to bring them into some program and do VERY simple editing.

The DV tapes werent seperated by content. In other words, lecture two might be somewhere in the middle of tape three.

Basically I need to grab these VOB files - somehow edit them and create a DVD menu - then put them back on DVD's

What's the best way to do it?

I have adobe premiere 6.5 if it's needed.

I'm a bit confused as you mention DV tapes and DVDs. Are you planning to incorporate footage from the DVDs with DV footage from a camcorder?

If this is the case, and assuming the material is copyright free, I would rip the and convert the parts of the DVD you need "on the fly". Assuming you there a relatively small amount of material from the DVD, you can convert this to DV and include within your Premiere Project. To author the DVD you will then need a seperate authoring application as Premiere 6 does not have this facility.

I am sorry my original post was unclear.
When I mentioned DV tapes, I meant that the original footage was on DV, then transferred to DVD

The original footage was done very badly so I have alot of unscrambling to do.

I am still looking for a way to edit the content of the DVD, which is very, very, very large. over 30 hours of lectures. (about 1 to 1.5 each lecture) on four dvds...

Then converting all of this footage to DV first is not really an option. I suugest you take a look at native MPEG editors (VOB files are essentially MPEG files). The one I have most experience of is Womble MPEG Video Wizard - http://www.womble.com

Simply copy all the VOB files to you hard drive and you'll be able to edit them with Womble. You'll need a seperate application to author the DVD after exporting the video from Womble in DVD compliant MPEG. As you don't need anytging fancy, something like Ulead DVD Movie Factory would be enough.

wow. that program converts from vob to mpg real fast.
so now i have about 26 hours of video to edit.
many, many lectures. all unorganized.

My next step is to take these seperate mpegs, cut and remake mpgs - one for each lecture.

Then I'm going to put them on dvd's with menu's.

I'm real new at this so thanks for your help.

VOBs are essentially MPEGs, so you could have actually edited the VOB files themselves in Womble rather than transcode. This will help maintain quality.
