Default mov to avi, mpg or dvd converter

I need a converter that will convert .mov and .wmv to either .avi, mpg or dvd format. Have digital camera vid (mov) of my twins birth that I really would like to burn to dvd, but pinnacle studio doesn't support mov or wmv. I'm really not looking to pay for anything at the moment, since I'll only be using it once or twice, so either shareware or trial (WITHOUT annoying nag screen embedded into the picture) would be really nice. thanx

If you have Quicktime Pro you can use it to process your mov file. Export - Movie to AVI. Click the AVI 'options' button on the window that pops up, then click the Video Settings. On the pull down menu that gives you, select 'none'. Then go ahead and set the avi file name, select the folder to put it in, making sure you have plenty of drive space, 5 minutes or so of 600x800 uncompressed video can take up 4 gigabytes.

The resulting AVI file should be fine with Pinnacle.

why not export to dv-avi?

another option is avisynth.

fairly sure river past video cleaner will handle QT crap too.

don't have QT pro. and don't care what format to convert to, as long as it doesn't loose quality and pinnacle will recognize it. is avisynth or the other free or have a trial period? not interested in buying anything at the moment, but maybe later on if the demand becomes greater.

if you'd googled, you'd know by now.

avisynth's free, yes.

riverpast has a trial, i think.
