win tvmpeg editor and ulead dvd factory

got these two programs with my hauppauge 250 but having trouble editing home movies saved to disk.when trying with tv editor it adds cuts to list but when you generate movie it gives error3.the dvd factory is rather vague about editing as there was very little manual supplied.any good editing programs with special effects that is fairly easy to follow.
