Help. I'm having a really hard time with this project. The film comes out to 8.7 Gb and I don't want to use two discs. I don't want the video to come out worse by dropping the bit rate. using vegas 4.

8.7GB of mpeg2 or 8.7GB of DV?

If it's 8.7GB of mpeg2, the ONLY option is to decrease the bitrate.

Of course, you've got audio and video bitrate. Are you using pcm audio? If so, convert it to mp2 or ac3 or whatever. Get the size right down.

if, however, you've exported a 9GB DV file, that's about what, 40 minutes? That'll fit right on a dvdr with no problems. Just make sure it's 2-pass VBR and you'll be fine.

VBR = Variable Bitrate
2 Pass = The video is assessed on the first run and encoded on the second.
