I have Ulead video studio 8. I use this to create all my dvd's.
What would be the main advantage if I were to buy a dedicated authoring software package. :

Well, if you're happy with the tool you are using then stick with it. Simple as that. If, however, another package has feature you would make use of then it'll be up to you to justify the price of the 'new' package against the extra features you'll actually make use of.
For me, I love Adobe Encore, because the menus are basically Photoshop files, built with a certain naming conventions. being a computer programmer I live my life following standards and conventions so this s all very natural to me. And I've been using Photoshop for a few years now as well.
Not to mention, the s/w came bundled free (?) with some hardware I bought

Being in a way, "old school", I learned, and have since been using, dedicated applications for each step in my dvd creation process.
Many would say that's too much work, but after trying various Vegas, Premiere, Mainconcept, Pegasys, and many Ulead and Sonic products, none of them did quite what I wanted.
I got pointed at DVDLab about 2 years ago, and since upgrading to DVDLab Pro, I now use nothing else to author my DVD's.

Yeah it will handle titles all day long in real time with the letters 'H' and 'D' in them.
But if you mean high def then no it doesn't  The realtime solution from Matrix for that is tons of money.

Would appreciate a little advice reboot. I'm using DVlabpro at the moment but can't seem to find a way to avoid the text going purple on an active link in a menu. I've been through 'help' can't find anything in there that allows overiding this awefull purple
