I have a mercury tv card with a pc spec of 512mb 80Gb and 128 dedicated graphics card, but when capturing footage from my VHS recorder to my pc via leads from the VHS to the capture card, the footage looks terrible! I cant edit or do a single thing with it, its jerky and slow picture motion, I use Ulead video studio 8 is this the problem? Also I aim to burn to dvd so what format shall I capture it as? I mean AV always looks the best quality

Have you defragged your disk? Fragmentation can be a cause of jerkiness. UVS8 is unlikely to be the problem. On capturing: yes, capture as .avi - if you're planning to author to DVD, then you'll need an authoring program that will convert the .avi to MPEG-2 etc.
