VCD burning

please help me again..I use Ulead VS 8 and I use NTSC TV.

i have a project with the following properties:
Edit file format; Microsoft AVI files
NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
Microsoft AVI files
24 Bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Frame-based
Uncompressed
PCM, 44.100 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo

I have set my preferences this way:
default field order: frame-based
image resampling option: fit to project setting

in this project file i have 8 video files on the timeline at approx. 5 minutes each with the following properties:
Microsoft AVI files-OpenDML
frame rate 29.97
Uncompressed
24 bit, 720x480
frame rate 29.97

Then i pressed "create disc" to make me a vcd.
HOW COME THE OUTPUT WONT EXACTLY FIT MY TV? ITS GOT EXTRA SPACE ABOVE AND BELOW THE SCREEN...i previewed the file before burning on my handycam and TV and the fit was perfect. but it was different when i had the file burned as vcd...

You have to bear in mind that the Project Settings for burning a VCD and burning (writing) to DV Tape are different. Most DV Cams use DV Type 1 encoding and VCDs require MPEG1 encoding. In Video Studio you can alter the project output settings for VCD as follows,

1. From the File Menu select Project Properties

2. Click on the edit file format: drop down box and select MPEG files

3. Click the Edit button

4. Click the Compression tab

5. From the Media Type drop down box select NTSC VCD

6. Click the OK button

7. Continue your project to completion

In Video Studio you can alter the project output settings to your DV Camcorder as follows,

1. From the File Menu select Project Properties

2. Click on the edit file format: drop down box and select Microsoft AVI files

3. Click the Edit button

4. Click the AVI tab

5. From the Compression down box select DV Video Encoder - Type 1

6. Click the OK button

7. Continue your project to completion

It is also probably worth mentioning that when you transfer Video from a DV Player directly to the television that this process is not lossless. Typically you can lose up to 20% of the all round image. Thsi is usually noticeable when you have added titles to a project.

ok thanks. so now i know. in my project properties i should always use MPEG as "edit file properties". i however already tried the following:
edit file properties : MPEG
compression: MPEG 1
frame size: 352x240
using the above, i didn't like the quality of the output i got. so i used the following:
edit file properties : MPEG
compression: MPEG 2
frame size: 720x480
and then i created a vcd disc. i think the output was quite better. what do you think about this?
what i want is to preserve as much quality possible when i write to vcd..
thnx. pls be patient of me

ps: if i preview through the VS preview window and given my settings, will what i see on it be the one i'd see on my TV if I play the vcd?

VCD is a standard. You can't deviate from the settings or you risk making your video unplayable in a standalone DVD player. If you want better quaility, get a DVD burner and create DVDs.
