Newbie needs help please

I may have bitten off more than can be chewed.

I volunteered to make a loop video from a Super8 film of my parents wedding for their Ruby Wedding. It was converted to a VCR tape and has now been turned into a DVD video.

The aim was to put it on my laptop and have it loop during the party. The idea was to run it once raw and follow it immediately with a titled version which named the relevant players.

I am working on a Windows Vista Ultimate and can see that I have Windows Movie Maker. I thought 'This will be a breeze.' It appears not to be.

Please tell me

Can this transformation be achieved?
How shall I go about achieving it?

OK so let me get this straight. This is what you want:
- Film A runs
- Film B runs immediately afterwards
This process continuously loops.

If that's so then create the two different movies and save them as nice windows friendly files (I suggest .wmv for the least hassle) and then select both of them and drag and drop them onto Windows Media Player. This will create a playlist and all you need is for the 'repeat' button to be selected and the loop will continue.

Could I perhaps ask for a little further advice?

If you have a DVD aimed at a television replay it is held in two directories on the disc. What is your software choice for converting that to the most PC friendly format?

And because I am miserly is there a low cost version of the software or a free version?

If you just import the file into Movie Maker that comes with Windows XP or Vista then publish the movie as a .wmv. That's a windows format so you can't get any more PC friendly then that.

The disc I have has two directories each with files in. The structure is like

Video_rm
video_rm.bup
video_rm.jfo
video_rm.dat
video_ts
video_ts.bup
video_ts.jfo
vts_01_0.bup
vts_01_0.jfo
vts_01_1.vob - this is where the images are

However windows Movie Maker does not recognise any of these files.

If the option is changed to any files Movie Maker allows the .vob file to be imported. I added it to a movie and then tried to publish it. The publish process ran to completion, i.e. 0% remaining work, but it did not finish, i.e. activate the Next button.

I guess that is not what you really meant. Can you help again?

So the video you want to use is actually on two DVD's? Right...you need to download a DVD ripper software that will rip the files to either .avi or .wmv in DVD quality. I've got Magic DVD Ripper (clicky) and the trial version will work fully for 5 times. The trial is OK but I'll let you have the *full* version if you want so PM me if that's the case.
Rip the DVD's contents using the software (just rip all the video and then delete the stuff you don't need) and then import that into Movie Maker for all your editing etc.
