Dear all there,
Please help.
I've been runing a VCR (sometimes DV) convert to VCD converter for a some pocket money for years. I use Pinnacle DV digital firewire card to capture a DV signal and output AVI.
Problem is that when it is burnt as VCD, the quality is not pleasant compare to DVD, but when i rent the movie from the Video rental shop nearby, i had a look at it why it is so good quality as it was original uncrompressed avi format. however it is VCD.
Could please anybody clarify?
Thank you in advance.

Yes, I do agree that with the VCD which is done by me or anothers, looks sucky but not with the VCD that I rent from the shop it looks perfectly brilliant.
Or is that due to using unprofessional capture device?
Thank you
Best regards,

I agree with mr. Outrunner here. You question is pretty much irrelevant I think. I know absolutely no-one who would prefer a VCD rather than a DVD. The format is so superior. look forward not backwards and create DVDs.

May be I should make it a bit clearer.
Now let's think backwards to a decade ago, the biggest film maker like grammy, box office, CVD international company so on... DVD was not even existed at that state. While there VCD played just introduced to the public and very few family could affort. At the same time we had very good quality of VCD movie to watch on VCD player.
Now what did they produce that kind of perfect VCD movie to the public?
Appologize me if my question looks irrelevant.
Best.
