| |  Cheap/good quality
Hey, this is my first post. But im looking for a relativly good quality camera which i could use for independant film. I am a student so it deff. can not be too expensive...also, which is better. Digital or regular (im not a film student...yet, so i dont know all of the terms...). If i were to get a "regular" camera do i need to get edditing equipment as well (i have a computer, so if so, digital probably would be better). Thanks!

You need a 'DV' camera. I am sure that almost any dv camera will do the job for you. Even cheap models are really good.
You get the video into a computer via the firewire port.
Avoid dvd cameras as these produce files that are not so good for editing.

Im an actor and ive seen various numbers next to "mm" for shoots and stuff...what does this mean? and which is best/is it digital? Thanks!

I should think that refers to the focal length of the lens used. Most cmeras that most of us have have fixed lenses with zooms but the pros will often use 'prime' lenses on cameras for shooting films, these are not zooms. The lower the number the wider the field of view of the lens.

I asked the director of a commercial i was shooting about a week ago about the "mm" size and he said it had to do with the size of the film...35/32/36 (somewhere around there?) is what they use for feature films.
Thanks for the info...and my budget isnt that big...my dad gave me an old 8mm (deff. not digital) camera to use for now. Its pretty cool to play around with...im trying to shoot a short for the summer competition...i hope it will be done in time. Thanks again!
One last thing, how do you transfere analog film to digital. This is important because i have to edit on my PC and i am shooting w/ an analog camera. Thanks
