Default Mini DV Camera HELP

Im possibly looking into the market of buying a cheap DV camera, sort of £200-£300 maybe. Its going to replace a Sony MicroMV camera which i can't stand, mainly as its Sony, uses their rubbish software and its MicroMV which Adobe Premiere wont read.

Il mainly be using the camera for days out at Race Circuits, maybe holidays and I just want some good quality film from it. The camera itself doesn't need any special features as long as it records, good battery life and I can plug in my Firewire and take the footage off with ease. Nothing more, nothing less.

Any suggestions of Brands or a Specific camera I could look at? Or anything I should definitly get (be it a good camera or a specific useful feature) bearing in mind all editing il do on computer so nothing special req'd on the camera itself.

Cheers guys.

For that kind of money, I've bought two Panasonics over the past few years - one for me, one for my daughter - and have been absolutely delighted with both, The only thing to look out for is that it should have a Firewire rather than a USB connection. I just checked out the NVGS17 at Currys - less than £200 off their web site, but apparently USB, not Firewire.

Looking through past posts, the NVGS17 is indeed firewire enabled.

With there being no image, I'd say "perfect".
