Default trouble transfering video to pc

Help, My friend has a Panasonic video camera and cannot transfer the film onto the pc. (she uses ME) I have tried on my computer using XP. But when it has downloaded it seems that it has missed out frames, yet the sound is perfect. We have been using a USB. Do we need a Firewire? If so, what is it? And how does it connect? Thanks.

I think you need firewire for it. Is it a DV camera?

DV needs firewire to connect to the computer. If you have a firewire cable and a port on your computer, it's as simple as just plugging it in. If you don't have a port, then you'll need to buy a firewire PCI card.
