Are all camcorders noisy?

Hi to you all,
I recently uploaded a post about a brand new Sony DCR-HC42E which recorded the noise made by the tape mechanism. Today I spent the day in and out of retail shops in Tottenham court road and was faced with different opinions from the men behind the counters some of whom I would not have bought a used car from. A general statement I heard from more than one in different shops was that the tape mechanism on all commercial camcorders produces noise which will be captured in recordings and will be more noticable when the recording is produced quiet environments.

My question to you all as camcorder owners is: when you are recording with your camcorder, do you notice a buzz, whine or noise coming from the internals of your camcorder and if so is this noise captured in your recordings? If the answer is yes to both these questions then it would be useful to me to know what camcorder you have and to what extent is this noise distracting?

Were the men behind the counter being truthful of where they trying erase my well founded fears in order to bag some commision.

I await your answers avidly.

yeah, but on my panasonic its not as noticable as with the canon ZR I had.....sounded like a mack truck was sitting in the background. I'm just very dissapointed with the crappy low light quality of the panasonic

Yeh but its simple ALL built in mics will pick up zoom and tape.
I dont think you should have had that attudie to me as im only 12 and trying to help :lol: didnt even get a thank you-Oh well we never get Thoose-All i did was give you te truth! *goes on..and on...and on*

I was extremely dissapointed when I first experienced this on my XL1s cameras, I shelled out a lot of canadian bucks to find all my soundtracks destroyed by; furnace noise, zoom noise, physical hands on the camera noise, camera tape transport noise...... it was maddening

I figured out that 90% could be eliminated by a good microphone shockmount installed on the standard light/flash adapter, and 9% could be eliminated by the application of a 'denoiser' filter (properly adjusted) in my editing software.

The other 1% of ambient noise (my knees creaking and popping...) get massaged in the edit or cut.

If your microphone is 'hardmounted' to your camera but is not 'hardwired' you might try this solution.
