Default External Mic Help

I have a canon optura 20 http://www.dvspot.com/reviews/canon/optura20-review/index.shtml AND a canon zr-40 http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...85551?v=glance

and i have a 30 dollar mic from radio shack that i want to use for better audio but when i film with it plugged in on either of the 2 cameras, it only records to the left.

and by that i mean when i capture the footage and play it on the computer or a tv, the audio only comes out of the left speaker.

any ideas?

Thanks,
Steven BOgda

I'm guessing this is a mono mic. In premiere, you can duplicate the audio in the timeline and use the "fill right" audio effect under stereo (or simply drop fill right and fill left on the audio - I can never remember whether that works or not!).
