Default Best place to buy a Sony PD170.

I've been highly recommended to buy the Sony PD170.
I've looked around and can't anywhere to buy.

I did find one place in the US that is selling the unit for $2100.
From what I understand this is an amazing price.

Is there any danger of buying from the US?
(Apart from customs and shipping in costs.)
Like problems connecting to a power socket??

Where can I get the best price in the UK?

Thanks.

OM

Yes, it will record in NTSC instead of PAL, causing all sorts of "hilarity".

If you're planning to have all your footage playing on UK (PAL) systems, you'll have to buy a PAL (european*) rather than NTSC (america, canada) camcorder.

* Mostly european. There is the SECAM standard, but this is irrelevant to the discussion

erm... $1499!?
in sterling that's just over £750.
we're getting a raw deal over here.
the cheapest i've found so far is £2500+.
:(

i dont wanna risk buying a camcorder that records only in ntsc.

Default ??

quick question then,

would you be able to convert it to PAL on the software side?

Sorry if this is a really dumb question...

Not even worth considering.

Oh, and remember to add on VAT/Import Tax, handling fees and P&P, lack of a manufacturers guarantee...

as far as i know... u the guarantee should still be valid...
though one would have to check with sony first...

ok... vat, shipping, import etc.
regardless... something is being sold for £750 one place and £2500 in another. i think sony is making too much money in the uk and this shouldn't be.

If a price is too goo to be true... it's too good to be true. Check out the reviews of places that sell that cheap...

US$ prices never, ever match up in UK£ prices on any electronic goods from any manufacturer.

From experience, it seems to be whatever the price is in US$, the price in UK£ is the same number, or more expensive. However, Marc is right to be wary - it sounds like *too* good a price.
