Building a 50mm-adapter

Hallo,

I am going to built a 50mm-Adapter for my Canon XM-1 according to http://www.mediachance.com/dvdlab/dof/index4.htm

Has anybody tried this for a Canon XM-1?
Anybody got a clue what kind of dioptrine the macro lens should have?
