| |  How do i kill?
I filmed a scene with somebody dying (from a gunshot, of sorts.), but it took ages for them to make it look anywhere half decent. They kept looking at the camera, or bracing their fall.
Does anybody have any tips on making it look more realistic? (with out having to resort to live ammo)

Can you not get away with cutting away from them during the middle of the 'fall'? It should be obvious they have been 'shot' and if they start to fall, do we really need to actually see them hit the ground to know they've 'died'.
It's VERY hard to fall to the ground and NOT break your own fall.
It'll be interesting to see what 'works' here as I'll be filming a gun battle myself in a month or so.
I'm more worried about a realistic blood splatter fromteh gun shot wound tbh. No idea how to do this and make it look good at the moment.
I was planning on not using any closeups and hopefully get away with reactions and falls to disguise the fact that there's no blood.
What have you done for blood in your work?
As for looking at the camera. No excuse. sack them!

Sounds like sound advice, i dont use blood as they are laser shots.
although working for the NHS, i think i might be able to get some proper blood, even if it might be full of a disease. Trying to talk a driver around to getting be some bits and bobs from the waste bins. don't think he's too keen though.
A mate gave me some footage to edit, and i kinda did alternative endding to this holiday, at one point a bloke got blasted with a machine gun, i drew the zipping of the bullets with a yellow line, and plumes of blood coming out of the back in photoshop.
looking at films blood can look very different.
notice the difference between the guy in godfather getting his head blown off in the resturant, and the sniper taking out the marines in full metal jacket.
Stick some red food coloring in the blokes mouth and have him spit it out, when a bullet goes in his brain. It looked really good in Casino, and i didn't notice a squib any where. (it was the bit at the end in the south american villa.)

we had some scarily loud squibs on a shoot once.
There's fake blood you can get that looks good, you get it from fancy dress/"party shops". Dunno what it's called, and i've lost touch with the makeup girl who recommended it.
small squibs and condoms/balloons with fake blood in them is all you need.
i really wouldn't recommend real blood, that's manky and pretty dangerous.

I found a filmmaking website somewhere which explained (amongst other things) how to make a realistic bullet wound action thingy... I'll see if i can find the site when i get home. |

I must admit. I'm trying to avoid using squibs at all in my shoot. They are, after all pyrotechnics and I suspect they can be pretty dangerous in the wrong hands. Or can you buy guaranteed safety squibs them over the counter?

squibs are bloody dangerous, yep. as long as you test them first, OFF of a person, you should be ok.

Once saw an effects guy botch up a bullet shot with a bit of plastic tube and a bicycle pump. looked pretty good from a distance.
I've got it on video, is there any way I can load it up to the site? |
