Thread: GoPro HD Rig Log

The GoPro HERO is so small and has so many uses that I decided to make a log of all the different rigging I come up with for various shots.

Today I needed a shot of traveling through the tunnel of an igloo so I attached it to the front of a sled and pushed it in from behind (with added weights for stability). The base it's mounted to in the case it comes in is a great multi-use platform, mainly good for duck taping to things because of its wide polished surface area that tape stick to easily and holds well.

I need a panning time lapse shot of some road work in front of my house, so I mounted it to a kitchen egg timer:

The egg timer works really good, I came up with the idea myself but when I Googled it I soon found how common the idea is! The igloo shot can be seen here: http://youtu.be/j0zcuq7ILF0?hd=1&t=4m55s

I'm going to improve this design with an idea from Youtube...you can get this flat timer from IKEA for $5.99 which you can just stick on one of your GoPro clip mounts!



There would be less shaking with this design, mine is wobbly so some good wind will wobble it...you are still limited to 45min or 60min for a 360 time lapse and you can only go one direction unless you mounted it upside down somehow:

I made another GoPro timer, I had to pack minimum for vacation but once I got there I found little use for my GoPro...sure enough I got bored and bought a $5 timer from the local store. I had minimal to work with but a steak knife so I sawed the dial off to a square that fits in the GoPro clip:



It fits snugly into one of these grooves but not centered:



You end up with a weird angle though, it will pan diagonally:



I just used some Elmers, it's certainly no epoxy but it holds if your careful:
