Thread: My Samsung VP-D381 has no USB port, and my computer has no firewire port!

Hi, I was really trying to avoid this, and thought i'd ordered one with USB, but as it turns out, only the VP-D381(i) has USB, and not my version.

The only other way I know of to get footage onto my computer, is something we had at uni. It looked like a VCR player, but it was mini dv sized, and so you could transfer your video without the use of the camera at all.

What are they called, and is this my only option?

Perhaps either:
a) but a firewire card for the PC, or
b) use a Firewire to USB converted; though I am not sure how well they work.

TimA is correct and he's also right to be suspicious of whether a USB/fierwire converter will work.
MiniDV footage has to "captured" in real time to a PC. This is not the same as copying data, where one "side" will wait for the other to catch up.
USB simply cannot support the systained rate required by MiniDV, which is why MiniDV cameras use firewire.
