Which of these 2 is better? (Want to buy within next few days)
I posted on this forum before about camcorders I've been looking at. I asked for recommendations and didn't get much help. I'm looking for a SD £250 camcorder for my dad who needs it for trips/family/holiday. I've now done a lot of research and narrowed it down to just 2 camcorders but I do not know which one is best.
I have looked for video samples of the 2 camcorders on Youtube but could only find samples on the JVC. Please can someone spend a few minutes looking over the specifications of both camcorders and tell me which is best spec wise? Both are the same price!
Of the 2 i would go with the jvc.. neither is that great.. but the jvc is better

I will go with the JVC unless people suggest other wise.
the major thing for me is the chip.. the sony has a 1/8 where the jvc has a 1/6.. the bigger chip will have better color, saturation, better in lower light..

1/6 of an inch is larger than 1/8 so larger is better? Got you! This is all very complex but the JVC does sound better from what you tell me. What I notice is the Sony has 60x optical zoom and JVC only has 35x. I don't think this is hugely important though.
....on the other hand you could argue that the Sony is better because it's kinda silvery and has a much nicer buttony thing on the top...............I'd go with that one.
Also the optics on smaller cheaper cameras is never really good. You have a tiny ccd or cmos combined with possibly plastic lens and an iris that doesn't let a lot of light in. I noticed on camcorders with those massive zooms that they suffer badly in low lighting and when you zoom right into the 35, 40 or 50 or 60 times end of the zoom you get chroma aberration or purple fringing which is a real disappointment.
I have also noticed the image seems to be out of sync, you can see two images, it's like some of the lens elements go in one direction and the rest go in a different direction. So I would suggest going for the jvc with the larger imaging chip and smaller zoom lens.

The Sony has been knocked out but please I am sorry to do this but can you compare that JVC to this sony? Again, both same price and both are now 1/6":
Take a coin and place it on top of your thumb, select a contender for each face and flick it vertically...when the coin comes to rest read the result and Bingo!!
