Default usb2 or usb 1

Have tried to copy from JVC digital camera to computer Hard Drive seems OK with Pixela image mixer but can't do DVD with my package. Have now got Nero 6 and when transfering to HD the picture is crap translates to burnt DVD.Is there a special lead for USB 2 from the camera to PC?The number of frames dropped seems very high in relation to those copied no figures but what shoild I expect.

Default Firewire Needed

Hi there,

It sounds like you need a 1394 firewire cable. If you check your camcorder it should have a little socket saying D.V. Thats the one but you need to buy a cable. ´Try not to get such a long one i hear its better the shorter it is.

Hope this helps

G

If you're using a laptop without a firewire connection, you need a PCMCIA Firewire (also known as IEEE1394) card. This is the sort of thing: http://www.dabs.com/uk/productview?quicklinx=162P

Thanks for the info on firewire cards etc. On looking in office world it said that the transfer rate for usb2 was faster than fire wire. PC has usb2 enabled, wonder if it was a problem having DVD burner plugged in (Which is USB2) and this took over the system.
Have just received Nero 6 Reloaded full package so will try out.

Not sure if I understand the problem 100%, but some things to look out for with USB are a) if your camera isn't a USB 2.0 device, ain't nothing going to make it communicate with your PC faster than USB 1.1, b) if you use a cheap USB hub, it's usually only a USB 1.1 device, so even if the camera is USB 2.0 compatible, it won't run at full speed, c) if you mix (via a USB 2.0 hub) USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 devices on the same USB port in your PC, everything will default to the lowest speed. As people are saying, despite tthe fact that USB 2.0 now offers transfer speeds comparable with Firewire, Firewire still seems to be the way to go for this kind of application.

A Google search reveals that it features 'Hi Speed USB' which is, I believe, synonymous with USB 2.0.

Firewire/ilink/IEEE1394 etc etc - different names for the same format that has become the de facto standard for digital video transfer from DV cameras.

Get a PCMIA firewire card and lead and say goodbye to dropped frames. The USB connection is typically used to transfer stills not video.
