Marc!! I take offense at that!!! NO WAY am I a member of ANY church!!

A lot of my friends have been married - and I seem to get invited to peoples weddings I only slightly know (because they know I will film).

I often get asked for a business card - so I figured, get some!

People take the p@@s - they ask for multiple copies, give music listings etc - all for nothing.

Absolutely.

That's sad actually. These people are supposed to be your friends. Even if you give up your time for free, you should def charge for the disks. You have to charge though, simple as that. You should not be out of pocket your self in the matter. By all means make it your wedding pressie tothe couple. Everyone else should put their hand in their pocket though. At least a fiver a pop for DVD duplication.

To be fair, the real friends may take me and thye mrs out for a meal etc.. but what's anoying are the ones who don't book anybody because the asume that you will "film a bit"....

Recently, I've not minded, it's given me a chance to practice more, and get a dvd demo to show to protention clients.

Ant problems I've had seem to either be camera limitations (eg low light) or because you're not being paid, not having the authority to boss people about - which will change when I start doing it professionally. A small ad for the next four weeks in the free ads might start the ball rolling...

Also, get some business cards and a few flyers printed up and then go around the local photographers. Ask if you can put a few leaflettes in their studio for people to pick up. Tell the photogrpaher you'll bung him a few % for each order through his 'advertising'.

I'm sure there's loads of wedding forums kicking around too. Remember your proper forum etiquette, introduce yourself and gradually people will get to know you and may start recommending

There's also directory listings (most of these are probably pay ones), local ads as you say, but more importantly friends of friends. A personal recommendation is the best endorsement.
