I have a ageing Sony cam with minidv. It has always annoyed me that recording dates/ times don't get transferred when I transfer the recording to my pc(I use Nero Vision). I use standard sony minidv tapes. Just to add to the discussion, I find after a few uses, the first 10 seconds of a recording becomes mixed with the previous recording and the camera tells me I need to clean the heads. If I wind a few seconds in all is ok.

Apparently I need minidv tapes with memory in cassette to transfer the necessary info, but I can't find them anywhere.

Does anyone know where to get hold of these tapes?

Many thanks.

I don't think you actually need those 'tapes with memory'. If my memory serves me correct all they do is record what built-in transitions you use on the camera, to avoid actually recording the transition over the original footage.

The tape itself stores the time code as meta-data on the footage. you just need the software to extract it.

I've recently imported some footage from several years ago (2002), and My S/W automatically filed it under the correct date for me. No clever tapes, just standard mini DV, and software that can handle date tags.

If you do still want them, stores like Jessops usually have them in stock, but they're about three times the price
