hey, uhm.. basically i have been filming ann edit for about a year now on and off.. but believe it or not. i do not OWN a camera. the majority of the time i am stealing my brothers or filimg on a friends.. well as my bro is nwo moving out.. i decided it was time for me to purchase my own. so i have a few questions. right..
First off.. what is the difference between an 8mm and a "dv" camera.. i understand that they are uploaded on to the pc differently.. but is quality lost etc..
i have a budget of up to about £300-£400max. and the stuff i am going to be filming is mainly skateboarding/extremesports..
i would really appreciate it if someone could help and or link me to a previous article related to my stuff..

dv is digital and you will not lose any quality while transferring and 8mm is a type of tape (which I use). digital or analogue can be recorded onto it but minidv tape is the latest and is considered to be the best.

ah k.. yeah i understand that now.. cus i can get a 8mm cam quite cheap.. so can i upload from an 8mm cam using "firewire/usb".. or do i have to use video in on my video card..?

No sources but when I was getting into this I kept coming across phrases like "Mini-DV is the best and only way to go". I went Mini-DV and didn't even consider anything else.
Whatever you go for make sure it's digital, and OHCI firewire compatible for transferring.
There are many decent Mini-DV cameras around in your price range. Look at some and let personal preference decide.
The things that might likely push the price up though are widescreen, DV-IN and analogue passthru.
