my sony PC110 has intermittent audio hiss

hi, I'm new here - looks like a good forum!

my sony PC110 has intermittent audio hissing - one minute its there and the next minute you record, its not. I have purchased new tapes and also purchased a tape cleaner for it.

any ideas? its my Daughters 1st birthday soon and I'd like to capture it in camcorder.
