Thread: can i fit new heads myself

hi
i have a sony trv 840e hi 8 camcorder and play back is all snowy but records ok
i'm assuming it needs new heads and i can get them but can i fit them myself, do they need soldering or special equipment to align them or something
I know its an old cam but i like it we've been together a long time

At a guess, I would suggest don't even think about doing it. Your camcorder may be in a bad state at the moment but it may become a lot worse if you try and install new heads into it. It sounds like a specialised job only to be carried out by a qualified technician using the correct equipment, that's probably why it costs so much to have it done.
