Default Do Sony 180 min DV tapes work with Canon MiniDV kit?

Hi there,

Do the sony 180 min DV tapes as shown here
Amazon.co.uk: Sony Single 180min DV Full Size: Sony: Electronics & Photo

work with MiniDV kit from other manufacturers, specifically the Canon MD235?

Thanks very much,
Mike

I had to do a double take when I saw 180 min DV tapes, unfortunately those are full size tapes and won't physically fit into a miniDV camcorder. The price aswell is many times more than a mini DV tape. We're still stuck with the 60 min versions.

Thats whats confusing me a little. This is a direct cut and paste from the amazon page:

Product Description
The DVM180 MiniDV cassettes from Sony offer a length of 180 minutes recording for your digital camcorder.

Have amazon got it wrong? Not outside the bounds of possibility i suppose.

Thanks very much,
Mike

That is the only place they are referred to as miniDV - everything else states clearly that they are Full Size DV tapes.

I used to use 90 min tapes from panasonic when filming speeches. Haven't seen them in while!

The dimensions they quote are also for a full size tape Product Dimensions: 13.5 x 8.4 x 2 cm ; 114 g, whereas a mini dv tape is around 6.5cms (length) x 4.75cms (height) x 1.2cms (width), so the dimensions are roughly half the size. I have never seen a 90 min dv tape, Marc you should have taken a picture of it so we could all drool over it.

I just paid a visit to Sony UK's website and there is no sign of that type of tape... I did see an 80 minute mini dv tape (dvm80pr) and these can be purchased in single packs or packs of 10 (20 extra minutes of recording in SP). There were also some hdv tapes lasting 63 minutes (dvm63hdv). It's strange they don't have any full size dv tapes on their site. This could be a ringer for it...Sony : DVCAM : United Kingdom scroll down to the bottom of the page and find the 184min tape.
