Camcorder recommendation

Hello All,

I would appreciate some buying advice. I need to get a camcorder in the best format for editing/adding soundtracks for sports video that will be turned into DVD's. I know the MiniDV format is good for editing, but how about the Hard Drive models. It seems that it could go directly my computer and easily edited there. Any advice on the new small camcorders or perhaps any of the semi-pro models would be greatly appreciated. I don't think HiDef is essential, but would welcome any advice about that as well. Thanks in advance....
