Default Lies, dam lies and the power of marketing

You often hear me spout on about the importance of things apart from pixel count with cameras - things like the lens, the camera electronics and analogue stages.

I thought I had better put my money where my mouth is. This picture is composed of shots from three cameras all scaled to hdv res. The lighting is low to push the cmaeras a bit - 100w bulb normal sized room.

One would cost you £120 s/h and is 6 years old and is dv tape - 25mbps
the next would cost you £2000 s/h and is 1 year old and is dv tape - 25mbps
and the third would cost £700 and is brand new and HDV HD - 15mbps

Care to place your bets? Answers below.

Top left is HDV HD - £700
Top right is an old sony pc4e - £150
Bottom is a pro jvc5000 - £2000

Suprised? I was.

What HDV cam would that be Mark Watson? So you wouldn't exchange your DV cam for a cheaper HDV one then, eh?

Not telling

It would have been very intersting to compare a Z1 to the JVC - can be had for simialr prices.
