just bought a JVC GR-D770u mini dv camcorder and I cant get my pc to detect the thing thru firewire or usb iI built the pc it's about a yr old running xp pro sp 2 Please help pulling my hair out

What is your work flow, can you explain in more detail whats happening?

Does your computer detect a printer, scanner or external hard disc when connected to your USB or Firewire sockets?

Yes I have a usb all in one scanner printer it show it under image devices in device manager I dont have any other firewire devices

If you know that your Firewire port is OK, it may be the cable.
I have a Canon HV20 and had terrible problems connecting to my computer. The problem was in the socket on the HV20, the connectors were too far back. I changed the cable and the connection was made. (With a good push) Maybe you are having the same problem.
