Which widescreen camcorder if any???

Hi a newbie here. We currently use a Sony TRV30E with IMovie HD on the mac for editing (and occasionaly Premiere 6.5 / PC). We are expecting our new addition to the family soon and would like to get a new widescreen camcorder. The Sony is a great camera for quality but is only 4:3. I read somewhere that home digital camcorders do not give TRUE widescreen - not sure if this is true or not. Could you please advise - and if you CAN in fact record and edit in TRUE widescreen, which camera is recommended?
