Smile Panasonic HD-SD1

Hi,

I live in the UK but am coming to the US, namely New York next week. While there I hope to buy the Panasonic HDC-SD1. Can anyone recommend the best place to go for a bargain? I looking to spend $750 or less?

Cheers

Fitz

If you intend going back to the UK, just make sure the camcorder will work with the PAL tv system. America and the UK use two different tv systems and you just need to make sure everything will work when you get back home again. Now having said that, there is closer compatibility between these two systems now than ever before unlike SECAM the French system. Also check the power rating on the battery and charger/mains adaptor.

Having not used an SD camcorder I can't comment on the quality but I have used a Mini DV camcorder that can record onto SD. It records using mpeg4, at 640x480 and at 15 frames per second. Not much good to watch on a widescreen tv but alright for the web. Just make sure you read the spec of the camcorder and it is capable of being shown on a normal tv. If it uses mpeg4 or any other version of mpeg and you want to edit your movies at a later stage then you may run into problems.
