casper,,the wonderful thing about shooting in sequences is that you can join each squence together either chronologically or as you wish. Vegas Movie Studio allows you to over lap each squence by how long you wish so each sequence fades into the next without being jumpy or jerky. I like to over lap at around 1 to 2 seconds. It is kind of like using a fade in/fade out transition but easier. This process skips another step like adding transitions.

Thanking our just privatized telecommunication company I only have dialup internet connection and it take me a month of Sundays to upload a 10 minute video.

Here is an example. A busker at the local mall.

1. Opening shot - Wide shot of mall area with busker in shot
2. Busker setting up his/her hat and guitar.
3. Zoom in or move close on busker. Hit record for 30 seconds or so.
4. Zoom or move in tight on busker's face as he/she is singing.
5. Zoom or move in tight on busker fingering his/her guitar.
6. Focus on busker's hat showing money hit record and move in close but don't zoom while record is on.
7. You can repeat repeat scenes 2 to 5 in any order or as many times as you wish.
8. Wide shot of crowd enjoying performance.
9. Shot of crowd applauding.
10. Shot of audience putting money into busker's hat and walking away.
11. Shot of busker counting his/her money.
12. Busker walking away, rear shot is good here
13. If you are friendly with the busker a shot of busker enjoying a coffee in a cafe.

What I have done is build up a story using short sequences. The trick is to stop recording between takes and move to another angle, zoom or move in closer/further away. It makes the video more interesting than just standing in the one place and recording without a break. Never zoom in or out while recording unless it is absolutely necessary it will only make your production look jerky.

Good advice yogestee, just want to add, if you are recording someone either singing or playing an instrument, make sure you record at least one minute continiously of them so you have a complete soundtrack with no audio jump cuts. That way you can do an insert edit sequence, a montage perhaps, by laying down the audio first on the timeline and then putting the pictures on top of it. You could also 'cut to the beat' using this technique.

Good advice Nikosony,,,I have a nifty little digital sound recorder which I switch on when filming musical performances. I play around with Sound Forge and lay down the sound track over the video on the timeline. Not perfect but works a treat.
