Default making single camera look like multi

Hiya

I´ve got to film a small dance company performing live and I´ve only got one camera (XL2). How can I make it look better than a whole stage, static long shot? They are singing and dancing. I´ve had 2 thoughts on the problem:

1) Mount camera on tripod and let it roll for the entire concert (I will grab audio on a seperate pro minidisc set-up) and try and shoot a second night to get different angles, close-ups cutaways etc...

2) Do the above but once and try and do something in post (premier) by zooming into faces, feet etc

I am worried that if I try and do some close-ups etc on the same night I will have a lack of footage while I reangle camera. But I am also worried that if I try and blow-up footage in post to get close-ups on faces etc the resolution will look naff.

Has anyone any advice please?

Thanks ciao

I agree, number 1 is probably your best bet.

You don't want to do #2 because it will not look professional, when you zoom into the faces, you will get intense pixelation (think digital zoom).

I'd say get multiple angles. Just reposition the camera between each act.

For the first show I would stay locked off though.
