| |  Best cam to start with
Im ready to take the step and get serious about filming. Im using Vegas software and need a good cam to shoot moving objects (cars).
I was told by a friend in the buisness to get a Cannon XL-1, im just shaking the bush to see what other people suggest.
Im looking to spend under 2k and want something i can get accessories fairly cheap. Also is Ebay a safe resource to buy from?

The XL1 is a good camara, but cheap is it not, and nothing you get for it will be cheap. Ebay is great but you have to becareful and know what your looking for, do your research!!!

Not really! It depends on what your doing. Sonys are better in low light, like Churches. And panasonics are better for indi videos, So it depends on the projects you'll be doing most.

Shots will be 50% outdoors and 50% in a large well lighted room.
Im looking at the Canon XL-1 or GL-2.
Any suggestions for something good for under 2k ?

I personally think the ZR500 and ZR800 from canon are GREAT cameras. They have a price range of anywhere from 200-300 dollars. They come with 16:9 widescreen or 4:3 letterbox as well as an external mic option as well as an excellent macrozoom option and manual control overrides.

Silverbullet - you say your budget is 2k. Is that $ or £??
Personally, I would skip the XL1 (or XL1s) in favour of an XL2. The simple reason being native widescreen - 4:3 would simply be unacceptable on a new camera for me. How many 4:3 TVs are sold these days?
