Default Help with DVD camcorder/computer edit

Just upgraded to DVD Camcorder Sony DCR DVD109.
I used to have a mini DV and just plugged my old one into my firewire and started editing.
This new camera has no firewire but I assumed that I could take files directly from the DVD. However, moviemaker does not recognise the MPEG 2 format and I fear that I cannot convert it. IS there any way to do this?
Should I return it and get a better mini DV or is there a way to edit?

Please help!!!

in my personal opinion that's exactly what you should do if you want to edit the footage.

Sadly, it seems you downgraded rather than upgraded in both usability and more importantly, quality.
