It is really daft that they use much more compression on hd cameras, there is no technical need for this. I suspect it is marketing - most people wont grasp what lower video bit rate implies but are likely to be impressed by 300 years of recording time, even if all most people do is to film thier friends falling over a few times, realise filmmaking takes skill and effort, then put the camera away in a deep dark cupboard along with the betamax, videodisc player, robo vac and ktel record selector.
