Default shooting a gig

Hi

My nephew wants me to film him and his band doing a live gig in a pub, music is loud and weird, post-modernist ironic garage punk-rapping or something....anyway the thing is I have one Canon xl1s with on-board mic. Whats the best way to do this.......just shoot hand-held and edit what I get?.... he'll probably record a seperate track which will probably help. He just wants some sample stuff for myspace I think.

Any thoughts or ideas or don't do's anyone....?

Any help appreciated

David

Turn media does this for a livving, SO best to ask him but I will add my two pence worth. First off I wouldnt use on board. It would be best for you to take a output of the mixing desk. How many cameras you doing it with, just the one?

I'd try to use a tripod unless requested otherwise - at least for some of the shots.

I'd also want the audio capturing off-camera, as well as onboard (and I'd only use the onboard audio track to facilitate lining up the better audio during editing).

Hi Thanks to all for their help, as you say I'll use the on-board mic for lining up at editing, dont have anyone around ( north yorkshire ) to help out so I'll just get on with it and we should get some decent footage.

Cheers all

David
