Question chewed mini dv tape..old wives tips?!

Hi, i'm new to the forum so just finding my way around however my question is, as my panasonic NV-GS70 just chewed up my mini DV tape, before i approach professionals to recover the data or reshoot are there any tips i could try with the tape? I guess this must happen a lotas cameras get old so just wondering if there are any last ditch things i could try!
